I moved to Europe before moving to Europe became a thing. The indie concerts and all-night diners of Austin, Texas were fun, but I longed for cobbled lanes, high Alpine passes, and centuries of history. Immersed in Europe’s diverse cultures and ancient cities, I discovered a rich history. The intricate interplay of volatile royalty, prosperous traders, and the omnipresent Church offered endless story inspiration. I prioritise plot and the tangled politics of powerful factions over magical kerfuffle.

Girl of Fire tells the story of a young woman hunted by an ancient entity, the Water Demon. Nothing in her life so far—working stony fields and herding stubborn goats—has prepared her for this threat. Forced to learn the ways of combat, she must face a question no blade can easily answer: can steel defeat something ageless?
